It is our honor to invite you to participate in the first ever SELA conference.

Sela

The Support for Educational Leadership Advancement (SELA) Yarchei Kallah is a fresh and innovative program for aspiring day school administrators. Many SELA participants are currently balancing teaching as well as administrative responsibilities in their respective schools while others will soon begin their transition into administration.

The goal of this Yarchei Kallah is to help prepare professional Jewish educators for the various roles they will play as administrators, including; school visionary, mentor, ethical leader, catalyst of change and communicator par excellence. Another primary goal of SELA is to create an open network of strong and talented Jewish educators and administrators. The conference will be a space where we can all learn from each other's experiences and stories.

The workshops will range from time management skills- -how to balance teaching, administrative and personal responsibilities- to learning about the complexities and dynamics of transformational educational change. Participants will learn how to build consensus among their faculty, engage parents and community members, and create a shared vision for their schools. The workshops will also focus on current realities and emerging trends in the areas of administration, policy, research and supervision.

We are honored to have leading experts join us for this new initiative including:
President Richard M. Joel, Yeshiva University
Rabbi Kenneth Brander, Dean, The Center for the Jewish Future
Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, Senior Scholar, The Center for the Jewish Future
Dr. David Schnall, Dean, The Azrieli School of Jewish Education and Administration and Herbert Schiff Professor of Management and Administration
Rabbi David A. Israel, Director, Association of Modern Orthodox Day Schools and Yeshiva High Schools
Dr. David Pelcovitz, Gwendolyn & Joseph Straus Chair in Jewish Education, The Azrieli School
Dr. Shani Bechhofer, Assistant Professor of Jewish Education, The Azrieli School
Dr. Scott Goldberg, Assistant Professor of Education and Psychology, The Azrieli School
Dr. Frank Pignatelli, member of the Graduate Faculty and advisor in the Educational Leadership Department, Bank Street College of Education.

There will also be a panel discussion with some of our colleagues who have recently transitioned into leadership positions. We'll have an opportunity to hear about their experiences as well discuss and ask any questions we may have.

A key component of the SELA Yarchei Kallah is giving each other the opportunity to process and personalize everything we are learning during the workshops and discussions. In addition to the workshops, we will be joined by seasoned and expert school leaders to serve as mentors. Built into the schedule will be time for small group discussions with your colleagues facilitated by the mentors about specific challenges you are facing or anticipate in your leadership position.

SELA is a place where we will be tackling and grappling with many questions and philosophies of leadership to enlighten our own work. The structure of the program is based on sharing and personalizing all that will be discussed. We would like to create a small and intimate group who can share with one another and learn from each others' experiences. Therefore, the first cohort of SELA participants will be limited to 20 members. Registration for the Yarchei Kallah will be on a first come first serve basis.
