The Ronald and Ethel Gruen Endowed Fund

for the Advancement of Secondary Jewish Education

Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gruen of Dallas, Texas, an endowed fund was established for the benefit of Modern Orthodox high schools that are members-in-good-standing of AMODS.

Mr. and Mrs. Gruen hope that their efforts will help educate future leaders of the North American Jewish Community. They believe that if we "lose" students at the Jewish secondary day school level, these students will most likely never experience higher Jewish education and have the opportunity to reach their true potential.  Mr. Gruen has noted that his family's greatest satisfaction from this innovative and creative philanthropic program would be derived from others emulating the concept of the Gruen Fund, by setting up similar Funds for AMODS, in their own names, for this noble purpose.

Mr. Gruen, a successful industrialist and developer, saw his interest in Judaism reawakened as a  young adult. Mostly self-taught, he gained enough expertise in Jewish history, Tanakh, (Biblical studies) and Jewish mysticism to teach  adult education courses in those subjects at the Jewish Community Center in Dallas, and to publish articles in  Midstream and Sh’ma. Mr. Gruen also studied Talmud with a rabbi.   Mr. Gruen married Ethel Agatstein from the  Bronx in 1942, and the couple raised four children.
